A technical trip by the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts students
A technical trip was organized to Elexus Hotel & SPA, one of the leading tourism enterprises of the country by the students from the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, School of Tourism and Hotel Management, Cyprus International University (CIU).
During the technical trip held within the scope of the Food Safety, Hygiene and Sanitation Course, students had the chance to observe the practical aspects of the information they receive during the class hours.
School of Tourism and Hotel Management Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Orhan Uludağ stated that the students had the opportunity to examine the theoretical information on-site as part of their study trip and added: “Students met Elexus Hotel & SPA General Manager İsmail Tirali, Assistant General Manager, Operations Manager, Security Manager, Housekeeping Manager, IT and the Quality Manager, the Head Chef, and the Food Engineer and received information about every unit in the hotel”.
Furthermore, students were given detailed information by the hotel authorities about the daily operation flow of the business, hygiene-sanitation practices, and their guests' relations, said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Uludağ: “By this, the students had the chance to benefit from the knowledge, experience of the professionals they will work with and become colleagues shortly”.
After the briefing given to the students as part of the technical trip, the authorities answered the questions of the students and said that the study trip was interactive and useful.
General Manager İsmail Tirali stated that the interest of the students of Cyprus International University to the sector is satisfying; that the visits in this direction will continue; and it is hopeful for the sector to meet future tourism professionals.
