CIU discusses the subject; being a dietician in the food industry

CIU Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics organized the event; "Being a Dietician in the Food Industry".

The event that was organized online due to the Covid-19 measures, saw Nestle Switzerland Global Nutrition Legal Affairs and Scientific Relations Director, Dietician Ece Nevra Durukan, share the dietician profession along with the requirements of being a dietician in the food industry, with the Nutrition and Dietetics students.

Pointing out that she has been in this trade for 17 years, dietician Durukan stated that she learns something new every day, and that this increases her motivation.

Advising that consumers and the law changes on a daily basis, Durukan went on to say, “As a company, we work with a lot of different countries. It is important not to be limited”.

Providing advice to candidates who wish to work within an international company, Durukan noted that they will have the opportunity to open up to the entire world. She continued, “The common language is English. You need to know a foreign language”.

Drawing attention to the fact that as a company, they work with different countries and that they utilize different portfolios, Durukan added that the consumers in every country have a different palate, and for this reason, you cannot use the same ingredients in every country.

Giving examples from Turkey, Durukan elaborated, “For example in Turkey, the breakfasts in the east are different from the breakfasts in the Ege area”.

Explaining that the presented products are prepared in accordance to the palate of the people in that country and in accordance to that country in questions habits, Durukan added that products are not only determined according to needs, but according to public health and inclined towards chronic illnesses also.

Stating that she is currently the head of a company that is active in 130 countries, Durukan explained that each country is different, pointing to the importance of finding common factors between them.

Giving information in relation to packaged products, Durukan stated that they have great responsibilities. Stating that they are a company big enough to effect the community health, Durukan went on to conclude, “But we are also small enough to not inflict any changes. On our own, we cannot change the percentage of a chronic illness. On this point, we support cooperation’s that can be developed”.
